  • Your New Scoop Site

    Welcome to Scoop!

To help you figure things out, there is a Scoop Admin Guide which can hopefully answer most of your questions.

    Some tips:

    • Most of the layout is changed in "Blocks", found in the admin tools menu
    • Features can be turned on and off, and configured, in "Site Controls" in the admin tools menu
    • Stories have an "edit" link right beside the "Full Story" link on an index page, and right beside the "Post a Comment" link on the full story page. They can also be edited by clicking the story title in the "Story List" admin tool
    • Boxes are what allow you to write new features for Scoop; they require a knowledge of the perl programming language to work with effectively, although you can often make small changes without knowing much perl. If you would like a feature added but cannot program it yourself, ScoopHost does custom Scoop programming as one of its services.
    • If you aren't sure where to look for a particular feature or piece of display, try the "Search Admin Tools" link in the admin tools menu.

O SCOMI, SCOMI! Wherefore Art Thou SCOMI?

Well, I do know this about SCOMI... on May 10th our SCOMI will be in what is perhaps the most despicable city in the nation.

The 19th District Court will be closed to the public for one day on Tuesday, May 10, due to responsibilities in support of a visit of the Michigan Supreme Court to Dearborn...

The local court will be closed as Dearborn welcomes the justices of Michigan's Supreme Court for a special educational program in which high school students observe as the justices hear oral argument on a pending case.

Amazing, isn't it?  Our tax dollars are going towards supporting this debacle.

If any of the seven SCOMI Justices decide to follow through with this planned visit of Dearborn, they will not be receiving my vote in the future.

Making Sense of the Michigan Supreme Court Race

Cross-posted in The Wizard of Laws and, by mistake, in the Multimedia section of RightMichigan.

Party delegates to the August 28 State Republican Convention will face the formidable tasks of selecting candidates for Secretary of State, Attorney General, and governing boards of Michigan State University, Wayne State University, and one other whose name escapes me (I think it's in the People's Republic of Ann Arbor).

At least as important as these tasks is the responsibility to select two nominees for the Michigan Supreme Court. Justice Robert Young is running for reelection, and he deserves our unanimous, unwavering support. Justice Young is an extraordinary legal talent with a first rate mind, unshakable integrity, and incredible vision.

The other nomination is between Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Mary Beth Kelly and Court of Appeals Judge Jane Markey. Both are well-qualified. So, how does one distinguish them?
