  • Your New Scoop Site

    Welcome to Scoop!

To help you figure things out, there is a Scoop Admin Guide which can hopefully answer most of your questions.

    Some tips:

    • Most of the layout is changed in "Blocks", found in the admin tools menu
    • Features can be turned on and off, and configured, in "Site Controls" in the admin tools menu
    • Stories have an "edit" link right beside the "Full Story" link on an index page, and right beside the "Post a Comment" link on the full story page. They can also be edited by clicking the story title in the "Story List" admin tool
    • Boxes are what allow you to write new features for Scoop; they require a knowledge of the perl programming language to work with effectively, although you can often make small changes without knowing much perl. If you would like a feature added but cannot program it yourself, ScoopHost does custom Scoop programming as one of its services.
    • If you aren't sure where to look for a particular feature or piece of display, try the "Search Admin Tools" link in the admin tools menu.

    The comments.  yeesh..

I've only been able to pop in and look a couple times today, as its been a tight schedule up north here.  So light for stories, yes, but not so light on the comments, and the tension level has peaked.

Occasionally, there are some who take things a little too personally.  It makes then angry.  Then they lash out, sometimes forgetting all the others in the room.  Of course maybe you cannot see all the others in the room, even though they hang on every word you say.

Do we have some dueling words from time to time?  Yes.  Do we disagree on any numbers of issues? Yes, AND when this happens, we make our best case so as to advance our perception of the truth.  Sometimes we even learn to understand someone else' position a little better.  That is a good thing, and allows us to understand each other a bit more.  Its a good thing, and allows us to find solutions that have a more solid foundation, and are less likely to fail.

    This is not the KOS.

Comments here ought not have the sulfur content I am seeing.  The yellow dust is flying, and its acceleration is unacceptable.  Let the lefties keep the self destructive hyperbole and vitriol for their own downfall. When I see it here, it breaks my heart.

Some folks just don't get it.

Up In Smoke: Sources and Zealots

Yannow, it really never ceases to amaze me that when one is presented with information available by sources responsible to its respective body be it us citizens or a membership, it still just isn't good enough or flawed.

Today that amazement reared its ugly head again.

    But, before going forward...

Be careful of your thoughts; they may become words at any moment.  ~Ira Gassen

A Message To Our Legislators - Beware False Choices

    Back to the Farm!

    Cross-posted at Michigan Blogger.

It's no secret that along with the national economy, our Michigan economy is going to get much worse.  So finding ways to cut costs makes sense.  Besides, even if you're not worried about the economy ... gardening is fun!

Gardens are popping up all over America, partly because of the "green movement."

Hey, I may be a "global warming denier," but you don't need to "go green" to enjoy gardening. You can do it for the improved quality and taste.  You can garden to be self-sufficient.  You can do it because you're the type of person who thinks about next year, and the year after that - long-term.  Gardening is taking individual action!
