. . . that's not going to deter the paulbots from doing everything to make "Mister Straw Poll" look like better presidential material than an honest assessment shows.

    For a candidate . . . (none / 0) (#15)
by Kevin Rex Heine on Thu Aug 18, 2011 at 09:40:19 AM EST
. . . who consistently polls either fourth or fifth in a properly structured statistical poll, Congressman Ron "Straw" Paul seems to be getting plenty of media coverage, in that he seems to be on TV an average of twice a day.  Yet the paulbots insist that he's not being adequately covered by the mainstream media, while simultaneously denouncing that same media as being unreliable (and often doing so in the same sentence).

The paulbots just don't seem to realize that they can't have it both ways:

    • If the consistent ability of Rep. Paul to win online polls and straw polls by huge margins is indeed reflective of reality, then the alleged "media blackout" of Paul shouldn't matter (because he'll sweep all of the actual primary elections anyway).

    • If, however, the lack of media coverage is more reflective of reality, then the paulbots shouldn't be demanding more coverage based on that which doesn't accurately reflect reality; rather, they should be figuring out why Congressman Paul cannot pull any higher than fourth place and address that.

Instead, the paulbots swear up and down that Ron Paul's hardcore libertarian philosophy makes him the ideal candidate for POTUS (all other considerations be damned, apparently), and often denounce any who believe otherwise as being media-controlled zombies, useful idiots for the bilderberger conspiracy, or some other ad hominem brush-off.  Evidently, anyone who isn't a committed Ron Paul supporter isn't capable of reaching a logical and reasonable conclusion.

Let's be realistic for a minute here, shall we?  Straw polls can be bought by anyone willing to pay the dinner tab for enough supporters to skew the results.  Likewise, online polls can be manipulated by anyone tech-savvy enough to arrange for mass-voting (though apparently not science-savvy enough to make the manipulation not obvious).

I consider it a major dealbreaker for a POTUS candidate to have no credible prior executive experience on his or her resume.  (And yes, by that standard I've already ruled out not only Paul, but also Bachmann, McCotter, and Santorum.)  When Ron Paul can demonstrate that he's capable of winning an actual election for something other than his congressional seat, then come talk to me; until then . . .
