Despite Senate approval of a continuation budget a week ago, Michigan government is now partially shutdown.

Congrats to the Governor for successfully grinding the gears of government to a screeching halt for the first time in my lifetime.

It can stay shut down, or at least most of it anyway.

Government doesn't do much besides steal and get in my way anyway.

    What's the Senate up to? (none / 0) (#2)

I've heard the House has passed all the reforms, the income tax hike, the service tax and the continuation budget.

Are we just waiting on the Senate to pass these bills and for Aunt Jenny to sign them?

this kinda reminds me of a song...from My Fair Lady which pretty much goes..."You did it! You did it! You did it! I knew that you could do it and indeed you did!"

Addition to the Recall List (none / 0) (#6)
by Calhoun Kid on Mon Oct 01, 2007 at 12:48:44 AM EST
Add Rep. Agema to the recall list.  I know he is a reliable conservative, but I just found out why he hasn't been in session.  I thought I had heard he had a terminally ill family member.  I didn't realize he was hunting sheep in Russia of all places.

The Legislature gets plenty of vacation time, more than even teacher in fact.  This time of the year isn't their typical break time and he should have never booked the trip.  With the budget not yet completed, Agema should certainly not have gone.  This makes us all look bad.

Recall list:  Granholm, Cherry, Bishop, Agema, Dean, Ebli, Gaffney, Simpson, Ward and whatever Republican senators vote for the income tax hike this morning and also Glen Anderson if he votes for it.

    Senate passes tax hike - it's over (none / 0) (#8)

The Senate has passed the income tax 20-19 (Cherry the deciding vote) and I'm pretty sure the service tax. The House passed the messa-kill. It's all over but the mop-up, passing the various tie-bars. I don't know which senators volunteered to be recalled (don't worry Valde, a special place in recall hell has been reserved for you.)

Democrats got their wish: shutdown avoided (none / 0) (#11)

You're all cheering that the government is shut down and say keep it shut, but somehow you're spinning it that the Democrats got their wish. Unbelievable. Man, you really embody your motto if you tell a lie often people will start to believe it.
But it's all for naught because the Legislature finally did the right thing and a few had the courage to make a tough and unpopular, at least with a vocal minority, choice. Sorry to disappoint you but the government is not shut down.

    You're right (none / 0) (#12)
