    GOP: "You Just Got Here"

In a predominantly Republican community (79th District) in a primary season, it's fitting to examine our Party in the name of unity, and in the wise spirit of humility, morality, and correction. We must being willing to check and adjust GOP behavior against Constitutional principles and ethics. We are, after all, a nation of laws (principles), not of men (personalities).

When I decided to run for State Representative of Michigan's 79th district as a Republican, it was fitting that I join the party as a dues-paying member, and become more involved in local party politics.

Having come from the TEA Party movement, I know what it's like to be a disenfranchised conservative; the GOP is supposed to be conservative, but has drifted from its roots. My personal mission is to help lead my party back from progressivism and liberal compromise. What I've heard time and time again is that our party needs fresh leadership. I've answered the call, so here I am!

So far, I've heard some Republican insiders say things like "you just got here" or that I "haven't carried the water" through the years, referring to direct involvement in local party work. This mindset misrepresents me and other active Republicans. At some of our party meetings, even my opponent has said you're not a Republican unless you pay your money to the Party. Oh, really? Let me tell you where I've been and to whom I've paid my money. I'm sure other real Republicans have similar experiences.

For 26 years I supported the Republican Party with my most valuable offering, my loyal vote. When I had discretionary funds as a property management entrepreneur, I supported the RNC, because they reached out to me. I served in Army Special Forces during the Cold War, helping President Reagan end Soviet power overseas, though many elected officials have since allowed communists to infiltrate our country by compromising conservative principles with their go-along-to-get-along bipartisanship which I am against. I have been part of Berrien County's tax base for the past 17 years, busy raising my family here and trying to make a living in an era of ever-increasing costs of living, taxation, and public debt. As a conservative veteran, voter, and taxpayer I ask, where are the dividends for my loyalty in such compromise and in hearing "you just got here"? It's shameful that the Republicans-at-large have to set aside their busy lives and now fix what we trusted current leadership to guard on our behalf. We didn't know our freedoms were in jeopardy electing Republicans!

Now, only the involvement of true conservatives will take our Party back! I'm calling out those conservatives who have complained about the direction of the GOP or have been disappointed by its moderate stance. Start by becoming a precinct delegate; contact the County Clerk's office for instructions. Precinct delegates elect half of the Executive Committee that manages the affairs of our local party, so this is true grassroots change! And whether you are a dues-paying member or not, you can get involved by coming to the GOP Club meetings at 7:30 pm on the last Thursday of every month at the North Lincoln Senior Center. Get informed and get involved.

that will be a familiar theme.

Right now, many who have been supporters of the party in different ways, yet have not been weekly participants will feel obliged to join and become a part of the party's "ticking parts."

Not a bad idea for going forward.  And given the efforts of some who have been there daily to raise funds and keep the party somewhat alive, I would recommend you recognize their work early and often.

Bottom line..  This is the year of the conservative.  They need us as never before, but we need to remember that while the RINOs were being selected, they needed us then too.

Get in, be productive, raise money, get conservatives elected, and build a stronger base.

    Thank you for stepping up.

That is the continuing problem with the GOP. Whether at the state or national level. They are content to let the left define the argument which they then weakly reply or react to. This idea of "you just got here" is stupid for a variety of reasons. It is as if you are among a group of reenforcements that relieve a beleagured command during a battle and you aren't deemed fit because "you just got here." Not only is that arrogant it is totally indemic of what is wrong with Republicanism at this point in history. And it points totally to the argument I have made for years that a new party must be formed in order for Conservatism to go forward and succede. It is the only way in light of the institutional rot both intellectually and morally that afects the Republican party at all levels. They are content to get along by going  along and don't either have the will or the guts to fight for this Republic. It is time for the formation of a new party. Let the GOP wither on the vine. It is no longer the party of ideas and freedom but just a lighter version of the ardent Progressivism as practiced by the Commie Libs on the left. Know the truth and it will set you free. Let Conservative be free of the Republican defeatists.

    As I have pointed out. (none / 0) (#6)

The Republican party was once a start-up party as well. It was just one among many. By the time the party was four years old it had won majorities both at the national and state level as well as winning the Presidency. So I guess what I am being told that what was once possible by our ancestors is impossible today. Now is that because we don't have the will or because we just don't have the brains? Something is strange here. As a student of American history I know of the turbulent era prior to the Civil War. I see many similarities between today and that period. Never say that another party isn't the answer. I guess we haven't been slapped around enough or kicked enough as yet to get the idea that Republicans, the Blue Blood elites, Country Club types and Rockefeller Republicans just don't have any use for us and are embarrassed that we are in "their" party to begin with. They hate Conservatives and really wish we would go away. I can take a hint. Guess it will take a bit longer for others to catch on.

... put more of your outreach into stressing your entrepreneurial chops and less into the military background (nice of you to have "helped President Reagan," though).  Conservatism seems to have become too obsessed with militaria and lost its focus on business and commerce.  Sorry folks, but life is not a Tom Clancy novel -- it's meeting payroll.
(PS, anyone who complains about "Johnny came lately" Republicans must wish that Eisenhower had never been president).

Cudos to you Mr. Peterson.    Having read a few of your posts and visited your site, you sound sharp and (thus far) free of partisan nonsense language.   I sincerely hope that this type of salient discourse will continue bring that which is conservative truth to the fore; The US Constitution.  It really is a dandy document.

While it is true that "third" parties have risen up in the past to gain prominance, your point(s) regarding current election procedure and law make this less attractive or even realistic.  This is of course based upon the assumptioin that the GOP will return and vigorously adhere to its conservative principles.

We have a wheel already(albeit flat) no need to reinvent or build a new one.  It is merely time to get the pump out and re-inflate it so we can roll.   God Bless.
