  • Your New Scoop Site

    Welcome to Scoop!

To help you figure things out, there is a Scoop Admin Guide which can hopefully answer most of your questions.

    Some tips:

    • Most of the layout is changed in "Blocks", found in the admin tools menu
    • Features can be turned on and off, and configured, in "Site Controls" in the admin tools menu
    • Stories have an "edit" link right beside the "Full Story" link on an index page, and right beside the "Post a Comment" link on the full story page. They can also be edited by clicking the story title in the "Story List" admin tool
    • Boxes are what allow you to write new features for Scoop; they require a knowledge of the perl programming language to work with effectively, although you can often make small changes without knowing much perl. If you would like a feature added but cannot program it yourself, ScoopHost does custom Scoop programming as one of its services.
    • If you aren't sure where to look for a particular feature or piece of display, try the "Search Admin Tools" link in the admin tools menu.

I had mentioned a few days ago that Alan Arcand would be challenging the incumbent, Dan Benishek for the first congressional district.

    Here is his announcement video.

Other races around the state will see challengers as well.  Dave Camp is being challenged by Pete Konetchy, Fred Upton by Jim Bussler, Justin Amash by Brian Ellis, and Kerry Bentivolio by David Trott.

    Did I miss anyone?

    Meet the Fockers.

AYES: Benishek, Camp, Huizenga, Miller, Rogers, Upton, Walberg

We've seen the movie before.  Spoiler alert: in this sequel, Paul Ryan and John Boehner lie, and the Marxstream Media prints the lie.  Once again, the Michigan GOP delegation majority has voted with Gary Peters, which is their ongoing endorsement of Gary Peters for U.S. Senate.

I cannot do much in other congressional districts, however, I am aware of what I can effect in CD-1.

Congressman Dan Benishek, go f#@% yourself.  With a chainsaw.

Rep. Kerry Bentivolio, I thank you for voting NO, and voting on Principle.  To that extent, I acknowledge the no vote of this dubious character playing in the Yob-ite propaganda machine.  With same regard, I thank Reps. Conyers, and Levin, for their no votes too.

A Message To Our Legislators - Beware False Choices

    Bentivolio Submits Government Website Legislation

An act that would likely keep Healthcare.gov offline for a VERY LONG TIME has been proposed by the representative from Michigan's 11th district.

One of the concerns going forward is that SOME enrollees have been given information about OTHER enrollees after using Healthcare.gov, the site which cost over 600 million and 3.5 years to launch and fail. The congressman's site reports

Congressman Kerry Bentivolio will soon introduce the Safe and Secure Federal Website Act. The bill requires that the Government Accountability Office certifies the security of every new website launched after July 2013 by the federal government. This ensures that federal agencies implement minimal security standards to protect individual's personal information and privacy.

Under this legislation, federal websites that collect personal information, such as social security numbers, will not be able to launch until they meet a minimal security standard.

Talk about putting the brakes on.

I wonder if such a thing could be translated in a way to stop ALL activities by this unlawful government until security of personal information is guaranteed?

    Yeah .. I know.

The MiGOP Congressional types who sold us down the river, and probably created a constitutional crisis while at it.
    Camp - Surrender
    Benishek - Surrender
    Upton - Surrender
    Rogers - Surrender

To the above folks, we ask "Why bother to go to Washington?" or "Why be a Republican at all? To win races?"  Benishek especially, given the support he NEEDS to even think about winning.  A very real possibility: 48-40 loss in next years general (if you make it that far) to Jerry Cannon.  Sorry buddy.  I'll let you guess at where the odd votes go.  As for Upton, Camp, and Rogers?  Not really surprised.  Safe districts, but might still face primary challenges.

Those MiGOP Congressional types who did us right.
    Miller - Nay
    Bentivolio - Nay
    Walberg - Nay
    Amash - Nay
    Huizenga - Nay

There are so many tests to fail, but this one you passed with flying BOLD colors. (the nay votes)

    Agema Endorses Bentivolio

    For good reason.

Given our support for primaries as a way of determining the most conservative candidates, it would be a little contradictory to announce opposition to a primary itself. However, there is no reason we cannot advocate for the better candidate.

Today, Michigan Republican National Committeeman Dave Agema endorsed Kerry Bentivolio for Congress.

    Bentivolio says

"Dave Agema is a veteran and a fighter for conservative principles. While in Lansing, Dave valiantly fought against big government and reckless spending. I'm honored to fight alongside him to keep this seat in conservative hands."
    Our objective. Of Course.

    Agema says

"While Kerry is busy fighting to get rid of Obamacare and keep us out of war, some establishment Republicans are busy thinking about their political ambitions and targeting Kerry. This seems to be a Tea Party vs. Establishment race. I am proud to stand with conservatives throughout Michigan in supporting Kerry Bentivolio for Congress."
    As are we.

Prior to being elected as Michigan's Republican National Committeeman, Dave Agema served 6 years as a State Representative. While in the State House, he was consistently named one of the most conservative legislators. Dave, a veteran of the Air Force and Air National Guard, is a retired airline pilot. He resides in Grandville with his wife Barb.

Five MiGOP vice chairs have personally endorsed Kerry Bentivolio for a return to the congressional seat he currently occupies.

According to a Facebook post by the Candidate, his post says

"This morning, five vice-chairs of the Michigan Republican Party endorsed Kerry Bentivolio for re-election.

"I'm honored to be joined by these grassroots conservatives in fighting reckless spending and Obamacare," said Kerry Bentivolio. "I look forward to working with Michigan Republicans to fight for our conservative values and to hold onto this seat."

The vice-chairs of the Michigan Republican Party are elected statewide every two years at the Michigan GOP Winter Convention.

    Ted Cruz is spot on.

The role of the US House is supposed to be fund as needed, and not as a great big package.  The President as Cruz explained, called out the dangers of veterans services and parks being put at risk by the GOP led house holding off the big package.  The US House responded appropriately and offered funding only to have it rejected by Harry Reid.

Huh go figure.  Michigan GOP Reps pay attention.  KNOW that you are winning FOR the country.

    This guy is brilliant.

Rep Walberg Votes to Fund Veterans and Open National Parks

    Credit where it is due.

In fact, I should have eight other press releases similar to this one.  Tim Walberg (CD7)yesterday, voted in favor of legislation that would provide funding for the National Park Service and the Veterans Affairs Department. However, both pieces of legislation failed by not gathering enough Democrats to reach the two-thirds required for final passage.  We have discussed this (quite appropriate)strategy on these pages recently.  Walberg says:

"President Obama and Congressional Democrats are already on record as supporting a piecemeal approach to keeping the government funded. It's disappointing some of my colleagues in the House do not feel as strongly about veteran services and disability claims, national parks and other areas of importance.

I remain committed to finding a compromised way to move this country forward. We deserve better."

    Solid.

Reality, is that Obama and Reid have said they will not negotiate.  The GOP led US House is completely in the correct mode holding out specific funding legislation for what might be perceived as an immediate need, while other negotiations (and hopefully complete dissolution of Obamacare) are being made.

Any suffering as a result of non funding is the result of the Democrats' stubbornness, and the President's absolutism.
