    Welcome to Scoop!

To help you figure things out, there is a Scoop Admin Guide which can hopefully answer most of your questions.

    Some tips:

    • Most of the layout is changed in "Blocks", found in the admin tools menu
    • Features can be turned on and off, and configured, in "Site Controls" in the admin tools menu
    • Stories have an "edit" link right beside the "Full Story" link on an index page, and right beside the "Post a Comment" link on the full story page. They can also be edited by clicking the story title in the "Story List" admin tool
    • Boxes are what allow you to write new features for Scoop; they require a knowledge of the perl programming language to work with effectively, although you can often make small changes without knowing much perl. If you would like a feature added but cannot program it yourself, ScoopHost does custom Scoop programming as one of its services.
    • If you aren't sure where to look for a particular feature or piece of display, try the "Search Admin Tools" link in the admin tools menu.

    Fighting For Our Job Creators

Northern Michigan has the people, natural resources and know-how to have a robust economy. Unfortunately, big government policies and Washington bureaucrats are preventing Northern Michigan from fully realizing its potential.

The regulations coming out of the Obama Administration in Washington, supported by career politician Gary McDowell, are hindering business, crippling job creation and hurting Michigan families.  Our region is being swallowed by Washington's bureaucratic red tape, which ignores the economic implications of their outlandish rules.

    Remember The State Police HQ?

~ Information eagerly gleaned from multiple sources .. and voting records ~

Straight up, it was a super-wasteful, corruptly built new state police HQ, while the state was laying off 100 state troopers and cutting back other law-and-order funding.

Last year the state completed its plans to move the Michigan State Police headquarters from the previous East Lansing location on the campus of Michigan State University to a newly constructed building a few miles away in downtown Lansing.  Keep in mind that the state police did not ask for this new HQ, and the state police union expressed disappointment in both the timing and the limitations of the new facility (more on that later).

The developers built the new HQ for $39 million, and it was not competitively bid.  For that money, while it will have a big marble-floored lobby and a gym, the site of the new HQ has still been criticized for being too small -- the site does not have room for an emergency operations center, garage space to warehouse vehicles, or a helipad -- and worse, "the federal flood plain prohibits law enforcement high tech and Homeland Security operations from being moved there."  (Here's the link for that quote - read the whole thing, because this deal sounds more and more rotten.)

A Message To Our Legislators - Beware False Choices

    Glenn Wilson Thanks Democrats

We have reported on the mailers sent out and the Michigan Democrat Party taking advantage of the independent candidate Glenn Wilson's position as spoiler in the MI CD1 race.  In a somewhat interesting twist..  Independent spoiler candidate Glenn Wilson thanks the Democrats for spending PAC money on his behalf.  The Wilson Campaign released this:
"The Glenn Wilson campaign would like to thank the Michigan Democratic Party for sending out the mailer regarding Wilson's stance on irresponsible government Spending."

    Some things just write themselves..

From the same campaign that has elements giving grief to Dr. Dan Benishek for accepting Republican money (he IS the Republican candidate.. go figure) we find the Wilson campaign eagerly lapping up the spilled milk of the Michigan Donkeys in a last minute attempt to remain relevant. The Democrat attempt to split the vote's cost?  Estimated to be about $30,000.00 according to the Wilson Camp.

    Consider it a gift.

But the Irony isn't lost on this writer..

Glenn Wilson Is Costing ME Money

Glenn Wilson just cost me another $25.  Money I really didn't expect to have to spend.

Not that I didn't want to support Benishek, or think he was not worth the $25 contribution.  No.. Rather I didn't expect he would HAVE to spend a great amount of capital to win a race that should be so eminently winnable given the way in which Bart Stupak handled his affairs.  The spending levels shouldn't HAVE to be so high, as the corrective juggernaut which is fueled by a responsible government sentiment is just now fully underway.

I must give full credit to Jason Allen for his understanding the consequence of fighting among ourselves, and what copuld be viewed as self destructing because of a stroked ego.  He took the high road.  He understood oh-so-well, how its possible to wreck all that you stand for by allowing a personal, but misplaced sense of self to override a bit of common sense.  How splitting hairs over 'perfect' stands on some issues before a congressional candidate, might be used only to split votes in an election.

And maybe lose a few gains that were made in the process.

I really hate to have to go here..

As many of you might have noticed I have not really made a mention of Glenn Wilson when covering Benishek, McDowell, and the fight to take the CD1 seat back from the lefties.  My 'omission' Stemming from the realization that any more attention to the man who might siphon votes from Dan Benishek, might fuel Wilson's efforts, and guarantee the end that still might happen; a McDowell win.

Funny, how it's something that I may well have railed about in years past watching debates that did not include 3rd party candidates.

What is not funny, is the reality that Glenn Wilson is not Stupid.  Nor are many of his followers.  Yet they continue onward in a path that leads them to more of what they might claim to oppose.  Any gains by team Wilson mean losses for Benishek.  They speak to the same issues, and let there be no doubt McDowell, and the lying Michigan Democrats will take advantage of that.  A Donkey could well hold the CD1 seat because of Wilson.

But speaking to the same folks, and being the same.. have very different meanings.

    The Midas Touch

Bart Stupak was one of the first congress critters to self destruct and became quite toxic when voting for the Obamacare plan that does indeed provide a mechanism where babies can be slaughtered in the womb with payment by taxpayers.  He betrayed the trust of his constituents, a decidedly right to life community of Upper Peninsula and Northern Lower Michiganders.

Stupaks betrayal came at a cost.  He realized quickly enough that his upcoming campaign was probably a lost cause, and announced his decision to not run for reelection April 9, 2010.

In fact, many of those critters still pursuing the dream of perpetual political payoff through a lifetime of "service" are realizing they "stepped in it," and are currently running back home shaking off their jackboots so maybe it doesn't stink so much come November 2nd.  The spell apparently has been broken, and the realization that overstepping constitutional authority might come at a cost.

They are pretending THEY didn't support the health care plan... though they might have voted for it..  another case of what "is.. is.." perhaps.  They have gained new smarts as judgment day approaches in a month from now.
